Redhead models are (as I will state several times in this book) one of my favorite types. The above nude image was taken in the woods with an off-camera flash handheld to my left. The model’s pale skin looks translucent in both color and black and white. The conversion was slightly burned in to darken corners and edges.

A large number of the images produced by a Hollywood stills photographer include elements of a set as well as the featured movie star. Interesting background elements that share common colors often look the best cinematically; this is why wardrobe designers and set designers work hand-in-hand on feature films.

This example provides a good example of the matching wardrobe to background concept. Place a pretty model in cutoff jeans and a checkerboard red and white top in front of a bright red tractor and you create a believable image that is worthy of a movie poster or publicity still. The added bonus is the abundance of red in the image that translates well to black and white.
